Festes de Sant Joan

Image
A couple of days ago I came back from my trip to Menorca. It wasn't a very long stay this time, because I was visiting one of my best friends and we all know that if you want to stay best friends, you must not stay too long.  We went on a canoe trip from Cala Galdana to Cala Mitjana en visited some caves along the way.     It was also the week of the Festes de Sant Joan (celebrations of Saint John), which in Menorca, the town of Ciutadella to be specific, has to do a lot with horses. The most beautiful horses in the world you can find on the island of Menorca; slim and totally black. Pura raza Menorquina, they're called. I'm not a particularly big fan of horses, but this breed is fabulous.        The horses main feature is that they can walk on their hind legs (not all the time, of course, but a couple of steps). They're being trained for that all year long and the more steps they can make, the more the crowd goes wild.    Dulces

Since a couple of months I saw crocheted mandalas everywhere. I liked the look of them, but didn't really know what to do with them. This week I started anyway and my daughter loved all the colors and asked if I could make a cushion from it, for her reading corner. Having a purpose for it, made it even more fun to make one. www.betweennapsontheporch.net You can find the (free) pattern here .

Girly Bags IV

Image
One of my colleagues loved the Bracelets and Earrings my daughters (of 8 and 6) made a couple of weeks ago for King's Day and asked if she could buy some of them for her nieces.  To wrap them up nicely, she asked me to crochet some girly bags. I want to make about eight bags, so she has something to choose from. In a couple of weeks there will be a garage sale in the little village where my brother lives and my daughters have planned to participate with their earrings and bracelets. They can sell the bags my colleague doesn't want, too, and my daugthers can keep all the earnings. I just like it how they learn to deal with money this way.  The fourth two bags we called Circus and Indian Rose.   www.betweennapsontheporch.net Together my daugthers and me made up the 'themes' of the bags, but a basic pattern for the bags you can buy here . The pattern for the Paisley I found here . ~*~ My Candle Light was featured by Creative Crochet Wor

Lots of delivering ladies around here, so I had to make another baby present. My daughter's teacher has gotten a baby boy and my daughter wanted to give him this:   www.betweennapsontheporch.net Although buying something would be so much easier for someone I don't know at all, I found this pattern so super cute, I couldn't refuse. You can find this (free!!) pattern here . And after we wrapped it up and embellished the packet with stars it still looked nice, according to my daughter. Mission accomplished.

Candle Light

Do you love scented candles? Me, too! I bought one last week, but unfortunately it came in a sort of pink jar for jam, because the pink candle was the smell I like the most, but I wanted to make it look a bit more like it could blend in with my other candles. So I did this to it.   www.betweennapsontheporch.net ~*~ My Cupcake and Strawberry Girly Bags were featured by Creating My Way to Success , by Oombawka Design and by Pattern Paradise ! Thank you all, ladies!
